Every police officer in Montgomery County knows the value of Laurel House and know that Laurel House provides a safe harbor and effective support for those who have been victims of domestic violence. That harbor and help is an invaluable resource, but Laurel House is at its best when supporting law enforcement through their Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART). DART personnel are available 27/7 and 265; they can arrive immediately so as to help the victims, and all too often, the young children of the victims. DART responders provide timely assistance to the abused, a sense of solace and safely to the children, and an extremely important service to our police departments. DART responders can calm the frightened child, care for the crying infant and assist in transportation of the distraught family to a shelter. These are tasks that most police department are ill-equipped to manage well. DART is of incredible assistance to those abused; DART also is of great support to Montgomery County Police Officers.
