NEHEMIAH'S WAY

Nehemiah’s Way has a long history of serving the North Wales area, beginning with its founding in 1993 by the members of Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church.  The church’s Social Action Committee recognized that the needs of domestic violence victims, particularly in securing safe and affordable housing, were not being met.  The solution was to create Nehemiah’s Way, which took its inspiration from the biblical Nehemiah, who rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem.  Following the example of this courageous biblical character, the church congregants wanted to use Nehemiah’s Way to help “rebuild” the lives of victims and their children.  Their vision has been realized in the phenomenal success of the program.  Although the agency is no longer administered through Saint Paul’s, the church continues to assist the program through is operation of a thrift shop, the proceeds of which go to Nehemiah’s Way.

In 2004, Nehemiah's Way merged with Laurel House, Montgomery County's comprehensive domestic violence program.  This merger resulted in an increased level of services for local victims of domestic violence.  Nehemiah’s Way, as a program of Laurel House, continues to provide transitional housing, but its residents are now able to access a full range of ancillary services, such as counseling, support groups, and legal advocacy through Laurel House.

Laurel House also operates a satellite office in North Wales to provide additional support to victims of domestic violence in the North Penn area.

For more information or to access services in the North Penn area, please contact the Laurel House hotline at (800) 642-3150.
